The author of "Girl's Guide to DIY Fashion" is Rachel Low, who owns Pins & Needles, a sewing studio for girls (around age 6-16,) in New York City. Kids come in for classes and leave an hour later with gloves and hats that they've sewed themselves. I wish she had a studio closer to me - this sounds like so much fun.
This very informative book offers super easy directions for kids to learn to sew and to design 5 complete outfits. There are even a few extra tutorials included like how to make things like sleep masks and purses and you'll find some no-sew projects as well.
I finally have my own sewing machine, got it for Christmas this year. Unfortunately it has been sitting around untouched for a little while. My favorite projects are the ones I make with my kids and I am excited about pulling the sewing machine out for my Sweet Girl. I was trying to figure out where to start when I glanced at the index. This book is so well layed out. The basics of sewing are covered first as well as a review of materials. So helpful for beginners like us. Then there is even a section titled, "How to use this Book." Perfect! There is a review of sewing words and some safety information as well. Everything is covered in this book from detailed instructions to step by step illustrations. Sweet Girl and I are so ready to get started!!
