Layers of yummy goodness make up this perfect bar.
I saw this recipe a while back on Eat, Live, Run and knew I needed them in my life. I actually made these bars months ago and now I'm thinking I need these in my life again. And so do you!
It starts with a thick shortbread cookie and then there is a rich layer of dark chocolate (the best kind of chocolate, right?) These are finished off with some crunchy toasted nuts...perfection!
My Sweet Girl is turning 12 next weekend (crazy!) I think that may be the excuse I'm looking for to make these again. I think her and her friends would love these.
This little munchkin.....
Is now this sweet girl....
recipe from Eat, Live, Run
1 cup of unsalted butter at room temp.
1 cup of dark brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 ounces, semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped and toasted nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and coat with cooking spray or butter a 10x13 pan.
Cream together the butter and sugar, add the vanilla and egg yolk and combine well.
In a separate bowl mix together the flour and the salt and then add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Blend together until a soft dough forms.
Spread this dough into the pan and prick all over with a fork.
Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
This is where I veered off the original recipe a tiny bit. I then sprinkled the chips over the top of the dough and allowed it to melt, I spread the chocolate over the top of the bars. Sprinkle the toasted nuts on top of the chocolate. Place the bars in the fridge for about an hour allowing the chocolate to set.
Cut into bars and enjoy!!
