SRC- Grapefruit Margarita

So refreshing and so delicious, this drink made me think of warmer days.

Its time for Secret Recipe Club again - I love being part of this fun club! My favorite part of the SRC is assignment day - I love when I get that e-mail in my inbox with the link to the blog that I get to choose my recipe from. I also love that most of my assignments have all come from blogs I have never been to before, it's really a great opportunity to find some fabulous bloggers out there and some delicious recipes. If you are not familiar with exactly how this club works, you can stop by the website and learn all about it - maybe even join in! Basically you are (secretly) assigned a blog to checkout, browse through their recipes, choose one to make and blog about it. It's a lot of fun!

This month is my first month blogging with Group A.  I had been with Group B for a number of years now and I already miss them but I am thrilled to checkout a whole new set of blogs and learn about the bloggers behind them. I was assigned La Cocina de Leslie  I had such a difficult time deciding on which of Leslie's great recipes to make.  We love Picadillo in our house and I can not wait to try her version. One of my favorite desserts of all time is rice pudding, this Mexican Chocolate Arroz con Leche sounds divine. Ultimately, it was this Grapefruit Margarita that I chose, I saw it and just felt drawn to it.  I don't know if its because I love grapefruit or if it was the brown sugar simple syrup that grabbed my attention or maybe it was the need to try a summery drink to remind me that warmer days are ahead.  Whatever it was, I am so glad I chose to give this recipe a try and I promise you - in the summer months - pitchers of these will be plentiful around here.

recipe from La Cocina de Leslie
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup light brown sugar
lime wedges
4 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
1 - 1 1/2 cups of tequila (depending on taste preference)
1/3 cup fresh lime juice

Make the brown sugar simple syrup by combining the sugar and water in a small saucepan.  Bring to a boil and then remove mixture from the heat.  Let it cool room temp while you prepare the rest of the drink.

Moisten the rims of 4-6 glasses with the lime and dip in salt.

In a pitcher combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila and brown sugar simple syrup. Mix well and serve over ice in the rimmed glasses.

  1. I am a sucker for a good margarita, and this one looks delicious. Welcome to Group A!

  2. Your margaritas turned out lovely! And yes, these grapefruit margaritas are perfect during the cold winter months to remind us that the warm days of spring & summer are just around the corner. :D

  3. I've been making grapefruit margaritas for a while now - ever since I found them on Pinterest. I figure they're great for winter because it's a great way to get your citrus, right? I am definitely trying the brown sugar simple syrup next time, though. I bet that adds a new depth of flavor you don't get with plain old simple syrup.

  4. Never say no to a margarita! Welcome to Group A!

  5. I have a ton of grapefruits to use up...guess tonight is going to be margarita night!! YUM.

  6. Oh, I LOVE grapefruits so I know I would love this margarita - it sounds amazing!

  7. Hi Danielle! This drink sounds like a great way to get a fruit serving in for the day! I saw your post over a the DIY By Design blog party.
