Its time for Secret Recipe Club again - I love being part of this fun club! My favorite part of the SRC is assignment day - I love when I get that e-mail in my inbox with the link to the blog that I get to choose my recipe from. I also love that all of my assignments have all come from blogs I have never been to before, it's really a great opportunity to find some fabulous bloggers out there and some delicious recipes. If you are not familiar with exactly how this club works, you can stop by the website and learn all about it - maybe even join in! Basically you are (secretly) assigned a blog to checkout, browse through their recipes, choose one to make and blog about it. It's a lot of fun!
This month my assignment was Learning Patience (the blog, not actually the act of learning patience- however I think this might be a good assignment for me too.) Corey has so many fantastic recipes on this blog. At first I figured I'd go the sweet route with the baking season being here, Drunken Coconut Couscous Pudding sounded amazing to me but then I realized I already had enough on the baking plate for the season. So I almost went with a soup, besides it being baking season it is also soup time. I can not wait to make her Chicken Thyme Jalapeno Veggie Soup - yum!! Then after looking around the recipe list I noticed this Breakfast Sausage + Gravy. I never make breakfast, that is Hubby's department (ALWAYS) I thought he would be shocked if I made him breakfast one day. I love Biscuits and Gravy but never made them or even thought about making them before (and either has Hubby.)
This recipe was so easy to make and in the end everyone loved it. At first my Little Man looked at it and turned up his nose. Then I begged him to try one tiny bite and he finally did. He had seconds - yup everyone loved it. I was thrilled - until I realized I am now going to be expected to make breakfast once in a while....oops! I'm kidding -It was worth it!
recipe from Learning Patience
1 pound breakfast sausage
1/4 cup flour
2 cups of milk (any kind, I used 1%)
Salt and Pepper to taste
Cook the sausage in the skillet, breaking it up as it cooks. I like to cook mine for a while so I get the little crunchy charred bits in there.
Add the flour and cook while mixing it in, about 1 minute. Add the milk to the pan and whisk until the gravy thickens and bubbles.
Add salt and a generous amount of pepper. Allow the mixture to sit for a minute or two to thicken. Serve over biscuits.
