Secret Recipe Club -Apple Chips

Its time for  Secret Recipe Club again - I love being part of this fun club!  My favorite part of the SRC is assignment day - I love when I get that e-mail in my inbox with the link to the blog that I get to choose my recipe from.  I also love that all of my  assignments have all come from blogs I have never been to before, it's really a great opportunity to find some fabulous bloggers out there and some delicious recipes. If  you are not familiar with exactly how this club works, you can stop by the website and learn all about it - maybe even join in! Basically you are (secretly) assigned a blog to checkout, browse through their recipes, choose one to make and blog about it. It's a lot of fun!

This month my assignment was  A Zesty Bite.  Meagan has so many amazing recipes on her blog, I actually bookmarked quite a few and can't wait to make her Shrimp-Crab Layered Enchiladas and her Carmelized Cauliflower with Molasses.  But for today's assignment I made this great snack.  The kids had a friend over and I wanted to make them something special to snack on so I decided to try these Apple Chips out.  My kids really liked these and I couldn't help grabbing one or two every time I walked by them.  I packed them as a snack in their lunch the next day too.  It's always nice to send them to school with a homemade healthy snack.  I definitely recommend stopping by A Zesty Bite and checking it out - I know I'll be back.

recipe from a Zesty Bite
What you need:
2 red apples
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp sugar

What you do:
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.  Wash the apples and slice them very thin using either a knife or a mandolin.  Remove seeds from the slices.  In a large zip lock bag add the cinnamon and sugar mix a bit and then add in the apple slices and shake it up, being sure to coat the slices with the cinnamon  mixture.  Place the apple slices onto parchment paper or a silicone mat on a baking sheet.
Cook for 1 hour and then flip the apples and cook for an additional 30 minutes to an hour or until chips have lost most of their moisture.  They will dry and crisp more once they are out of the oven.

*Cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the apple slices*

  16. My son loves these from the store. I honestly though I'd need a dehydrator to recreate them at home. I'm so glad to find a recipe that I can just use my oven! Thanks.
