My Favorite Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love oatmeal cookies when they are homemade.  I'm not a huge fan of them when they come from the store but I definitely do love a good homemade chewy Oatmeal Cookie right out of the oven.  This is my favorite recipe for oatmeal cookies  - confession time - this is the recipe off the side of the Great Value oatmeal container.  I follow the recipe exactly with no modifications because they are just right the way they are.  If you love a good oatmeal cookie - this is a must try Enjoy!!

recipe from Great Value
What you need:
1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla
1 1/2 cups AP flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cups whole grain old fashioned oats
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

What you do:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  In a large bowl blend the shortening with the sugars - be sure to add the sugar a little at a time.  Add eggs, milk and vanilla and beat well.  Stir in the oats and the chocolate chips.  Drop the batter by rounded tablespoonfuls on to an ungreased baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart.  Bake for 13-15 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.  Finish cooling cookies on a wire rack.

This recipe makes enough cookies to share -42 to be exact.

Great - now I am craving a cookie - time to make a new batch!

  12. My wife loves this recipe and she has never been a fan of oatmeal cookies. I would say that I find it best to use milk chocolate chips and some cinnamon for a little kicker. Makes the cookies perfect.
