Slow Cooker Applesauce

Here is something else the kids and I made when we decided to cook our way through fall break.  This one was a lot of fun too because the kids really enjoyed smashing the apples.  This recipe really doesn't have any exact measurements but I'll tell you how we did it.  This jar was empty by the next day - I find that when the kids help make something with me they enjoy it all the more.

What we did:
We turned our slow cooker on low and put a little bit of water in the bottom of it.  Then I cored and sliced a bag of apples  (I like to leave the apple peel on but you can remove it if you prefer.)  The kids threw the apples into the pot.  We then added some cinnamon and brown sugar along with some pumpkin pie spice.  I drizzled a little honey in their too.  Then we let it cook and came back every once in a while to do some mashing.  The results were 2 very happy kids and one empty jar.

  1. Homemade applesauce is hands down a gazillion times better than storebought! I love how you got the kids involved in making it!

  4. Seriously, this is all you did? Put them in the crockpot and mash a little? I could do that! When I do it with my family, we always use a squeezo, which I don't have at my house.

  9. That sounds so good and so easy! I haven't made homemade apple sauce in years, because it was always so labor intensive, but this I can do :) Thank you for sharing!

  12. What a fun activity to do with your kids! I love making applesauce, but I usually make mine on the stove top because I like the apples a bit firmer.

  13. I do not like store bought apple sauce, but the few times I've made it homemade, it was amazing! I hope we have a good apple season this year...I want apple sauce and apple butter!
