Oatmeal Love

I love oatmeal - I might have mentioned this maybe here or here perhaps?  I figured I'd mention it again.  My kids now love oatmeal too.  This was our breakfast the other morning it is Banana and Date Oatmeal with PB and Sunflower Seeds.  And it is a keeper!  Sweet Girl doesn't like raisins so I found some chopped dates in the pantry that I had leftover from another recipe and threw them in the oatmeal - she loved it.  It adds a nice touch of sweetness to the oatmeal.  We like to top our oatmeal with "crunchies"  that means anything with a crunch; sometimes granola, chopped nuts, slivered almonds or in this case roasted sunflower seeds.  I think we ate this 3 or 4 times last week.  Enjoy!!

What you need:
oatmeal
water or milk
banana
vanilla
chopped dates (or raisins)
roasted sunflower seeds
peanut butter

This is a throw it together dish so I don't have true measurements to give you so

Here's what you do:
Cook oatmeal according to package directions.  Add a chopped banana along with the oatmeal and mash as it cooks.  Add  some dates and let finish cooking.  When done add a dash of vanilla.  You can add your pb now if you want, my kids like it when I put a teaspoon with pb on top of the oatmeal (that way it melts a bit and they can swirl it in and then lick their spoons.)  Sprinkle on the sunflower seeds.

I love oatmeal too. I often make it with apple cider and sometimes add frozen blueberries. They thaw quickly. A friend once encouraged me to grate very dark chocolate over the top. It's pure heaven! Thanks for this basic, healthy recipe!
