Picture Frame or Recipe Holder?

I have been meaning to make these for a while, I have 3 more in the garage just waiting for finishing touches.  I first saw these Frames (or Recipe Holders) while I was in the salon one day waiting for my turn.  They were selling some there and of course my thought when I saw the $30 price tag was obvious,  "I could totally make that!!"  I looked online to see if I could find these - I assumed they had been done before.  I found the exact same thing at Shanty2Chic.  I bookmarked it and kept hoping to get to it one day.  I decided that day would be the end of the school year and these would be my teacher gifts - perfect!  So I went to Hobby Lobby and Home Depot and picked up some supplies.

 Here's what I got:

Ignore the larger piece of wood that is actually not the one I ended up using
From Home Depot I bought  a piece of wood that was 2"x8"x8 feet.  I had them cut it down to 11" and I believe this cost me less than $3.
From Hobby Lobby I bought:
A piece of wood to use as the stand
Wooden knobs for the top
Wooden candlesticks
Small wooden paper clips
You will also need spray paint (I chose black)

Here's what you do:

Start by sanding the edges of the larger piece of wood. Then glue pieces together with E6000 and leave to completely dry.

Spray paint, you may need a few layers.
I then lightly sanded some of the paint (as suggested by Shanty2Chic) I don't think I sanded enough and I may go back and do some more.
I found a design to use and used my Cricut to cut it out of vinyl.
Added a picture of my handsome and oh so very sweet "Little Man" and that was it.

Yup - that's right I made one for me and none for the teachers.  I started these projects right before I went into the hospital for my surgery and wasn't able to complete it.  By the time I got out of the hospital school was over and then there was my recovery time....

So, I  have one finished and I love it!  I have three unfinished just waiting for me to get too...soon.
