Light Whole-Wheat Bread

I am on a bread making kick this days.  It seems I have neglected my poor bread maker for way too long and have definitely been spending some time becoming reacquainted with it.  Over the weekend I made this loaf of bread, it is a light whole-wheat bread.  I found the recipe in my Complete Bread Machine Bakery Book (something else that has been neglected for a while now.)   It was a definite winner and gone within a few days.  I almost made a second loaf  this week when I decided to change it up a bit and make some pita bread (recipe to be posted soon) in the bread maker.   Enjoy!

What you need:
1 1/4 cups water
1 teaspoon honey
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal (not instant)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

What you do:
Pour the water into the bread pan and add a spoonful of honey.  Add the flours, oatmeal and salt.  Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the yeast.   Use the regular cycle on your bread machine.

note: some bread machines work differently, be sure to check your manual to double check the order you need to place your ingredients in the pan.

  1. I'm so sad I got rid of my bread maker because I hadn't used it in so long. I think I made a big mistake, because there are so many times I have wished to use it since. Does that ever happen to anyone else? I LOVE this recipe. I always appreciate when I see something leaning towards the healthier side of the scale! Perhaps I should consider investing in another machine...

  2. sounds delicious...thanks for sharing your recipe! happy food trip friday! :)
